Overview

We are continuing work to transform Aotearoa’s approach to mental wellbeing: supporting people to stay well and have access to help that works for them, when and where they need it. The approach is broader than previously, and spans mental wellbeing promotion, prevention and early intervention, addressing equity issues and supporting our most vulnerable.

Kia Manawanui Aotearoa – Long-term pathway to mental wellbeing outlines the next steps for implementation of the changes required to support the mental wellbeing of New Zealanders. It recognises that mental wellbeing is not the sole responsibility of the health system and sets out the actions needed across sectors to achieve pae ora. Developing a System and Service Framework is one of the key actions for the health sector in Kia Manawanui.

The Framework will identify the core components of a contemporary mental health and addiction system that will support everyone to experience mental wellbeing and address mental health issues and substance related harm. It will describe the system of services we want to see in place ten years from now and will set expectations for what is delivered at a local, regional and national level.

We started working on this last year, with an initial Lived Experience Design Group and targeted hui, and we are at the stage where we would like your feedback on our current thinking.
